Hello Students!
I want to clarify a few things from our class meeting today. I told you some things incorrectly, so I want to clarify them here:
1. Your interviews are due on Wednesday. You will not need to type up a whole transcript of the interview for this assignment. I would like for you to turn in your notes from the interview, in whatever form they are in.
2. When you do your interview, you want to ask the main question "What are the goals and characteristics of this Discourse community?" Consider asking your interviewee some of the questions on the back page of the assignment sheet. You might also like to ask some questions about how the community exhibits some of the main ideas from Gee's theory.
3. The course schedule will go as follows for the rest of this unit:
On Wednesday 2/29 we will talk about your interviews and workshop some more ideas for the communities you're looking at. We will also talk about Mirabelli's article as a frame and your muddiest point questions.
On Friday and Monday 3/2 and 3/5, we will have in-class work days. You will receive extra points for coming to class those days to work on your projects (treat them like the workshop days). Bring all your data and your project materials (computers, notes, interview notes, Gee article, etc) on those two days.
On Wednesday 37 your Discourse Community Projects will be due. We will be doing an active activity that day also. I will introduce Unit Four (our last major project) that day, so do not miss it!
